After graduating from Parsons School of Design, Derek Lam spent twelve years working under mentor Michael Kors, until launching a designer collection of his own during New York Fashion Week in September 2003. Over the next year and a half, Lam received rave reviews and his designs quickly placed him among an esteemed list of leading U.S. designers. Building on the foundation he laid working under Michael Kors, the king of jet set chic, Lam created a line of eyewear that is at once, wearable, unpretentious, modern and wildly feminine. With designs that incorporate elements from throwback era’s and notorious eyewear iconography, Lam’s frames are as gorgeous, chic and recognizable as the figures that inspired them.

Lam has been honored with an impressive series of awards including the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award in 2004, and a CFDA Perry Ellis – Swarovski Award the following year. The Lam collection is sold in stores such as Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and specialty stores across the U.S. and 11 international countries. His creations have received attention from leading publications, including Women’s Wear Daily, Vogue, Bazaar, Town & Country, Allure, Lucky, Jane, People and Elle and is now, proudly featured at Gilt Groupe.
